New Orleans has an average defense at best and even though the Lions are weak, there is no telling what will happen in this contest. I like the Lions to lose by a touchdown, but cover the spread. Prediction: Saints 35 28Atlanta Falcons ( 4) vs. Miami DolphinsMatt Ryan and the Falcons will come out hot with Tony Gonzalez and an improved defense. Atlanta ( 4). Prediction: 28 17 FalconsCarolina Panthers ( 1) vs. Philadelphia EaglesThis game could go either way, and obviously Vegas odds makers agree judging by the 1 line in favor of the home team. I think when the season is over the Eagles will have the better record, but I like the Panthers to win their opener thanks to the running game. Panthers ( 1). Prediction: 35 27 Panthers.Baltimore Ravens ( 9) vs. Kansas City ChiefsRavens are tough, but will not beat the Chiefs by 9+ points even in Baltimore. Kansas City is improved (even without Gonzalez) and should compete in this game. Chiefs (+9). Prediction: 21 17.Cincinnati Bengals ( 3) vs. Denver BroncosNot exactly a quality match up here. Carson Palmer looks good so far in the preseason and Ocho Cinco should have a better year than in ’08. The Broncos still don’t have a defense, so I have to go with Cincy here. Bengals ( 3).
